Mind Over Mountains - Itinerary
Today you arrive in Delhi. You will be greeted at the hotel, meet key members of team and given a welcome pack with information about the week. This week will present both mental and physical challenges and tonight is an opportunity to prepare for the challenge ahead. There will be a mandatory team briefing about the trek, followed by dinner together at the hotel and the opportunity to mingle with your fellow team mates. Overnight in the hotel near Delhi International Airport.
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport and board the internal flight to the foothills of the Himalayas, touching down in Dharamsala Airport. You will transfer from the airport to the camp, based near Bir. This evening will be the first opportunity to hear from our mental health ambassadors ahead of the challenge. They will provide you with thought starters and tools to support your mental health throughout the challenge, with the vision of taking these back to your personal and professional lives. You’ll receive a full trek briefing around the camp fire, followed by a traditional Indian mountain dinner in our mountain village camp.
After an early breakfast, we will set off in four groups of 25 and you will begin the first day of your trekking challenge from Mangroliar to Bir. You will be walking with a team of experienced international and local guides, assistant guides and support crew. This route today takes you on mountain paths through Mangroliarto Ahju Fort. You will continue the route on one of the oldest narrow gauge railway lines in India. At night, we will have dinner together and stay overnight in Bir camp.
This morning we’ll awake early for a team stretch and yoga session. This will be an opportunity to reset the mind and mentally prepare for trek day 2. Today presents you with a very challenging and tough mountain trek. You will be trekking towards the snow line, forged by nomadic tribal shepherds, the Gaddi. We will be keeping our eyes peeled for wildlife, especially for signs of leopard and puma. You will camp tonight in our Billing camp; it will be cold, but there will be fires and local Indian chai to keep you warm – and an opportunity to participate in guided meditation on the top of the mountain, over-looking some of the most spectacular views the Himalayas has to offer.
After an early breakfast, your tired feet and worn down boots will be trekking over the top of a ridge crossing two high mountain passes, with a strong possibility of cold weather, so be prepared. In the afternoon, you will cross an ancient village named Rajkhola, framed for its medical herbs and populated only in the clement months of the year. You will continue moving upwards the forest, returning to the Billing high camp and staying overnight there. We’ll have dinner as a team and hear from our ambassadors to discuss our collective vision to end the stigma of mental health.
After another early breakfast, today will be a tough trek with an initial descent followed by steep climbs on mountain paths that will test your mettle and resilience. Then we will stop and celebrate the achievement of reaching the climax of your trek. You will cross a river at a fording point, ideal for those who wish to enjoy the ice-cold mountain waters. Then, we will celebrate the end of your trek with a local style feast cooked in the traditional way by local villagers. There will be a dance troupe and musicians for our evening. It will be a fantastic celebration to mark the end of an amazing challenge and our collective efforts to raise funds and awareness for mental health
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Dharamsala airport for your flight to Delhi International Airport.
